This action was also carried out without any permissions, papers, etc. A group of friends simply put the cage to the van, carried it to the spot, that is, Market Square in Wroclaw, entrance from Świdnicka and Olawska street. It was a quick, crook action. Six people took the cage out from the van, I was already inside. They placed me there vertically and dispersed. Now I think, it was a trial for me. I had to try myself out, confront with others, with myself, with my artistic practice. „Do I really want to do it? Am I able to spend the whole day in this cape?”
If the answer is positive, than I will be able to act with quite an ease in the future. It was such a reasoning and there was of course a hind of „philosophy of separation” attached to it. The crucial aspect of the project was cage dimensions: 1x1x2 meters. So, very similar to the size of our private space in the public realm.
The main principle was to set myself outside, in the urban space, staying at the same time, inide.
I wasn’t talking to anyone, just watching. Sometimes I made some gestures, sometimes I was sitting and thinking, or writing something, or making photos, or recording from time to time. – Jacek Zachodny.
